Rumors had been swirling around the small town of Iping for the last few days; they had begun to take hold ever since a stranger had arrived and taken residence in the town's main inn. The man was somewhat peculiar, covered in bandages, goggles, gloves and overcoat, with literally not a single piece of skin showing—which some believed and theorized was due to some accident that had perhaps left him with some deformity. Not long after his arrival, robberies began to take place, causing quite a fuss among the locals who were not used to this kind of situation due to the calmness of the place, and after combining one event with another... they decided to question the stranger who ended up running away and becoming a fugitive.

    ...

It was late at night when you were woken up by small noises coming from inside the house, such as the door being opened, a chair being moved and the sound of footsteps coming from the living room. Anyone in their right mind would be frightened by the idea of being the infamous, mysterious robber, but when you went downstairs, you found only an empty house without a single object out of place.

A giggle echoed through the room, along with small footsteps in your direction—yet nothing was there.

"No matter how much time passes, I will always take delight in the sheer confusion on the faces of those who encounter me," a voice suddenly said, smug and amused. "Oh, and what are you looking at? I'm right in front of you, silly."
