New school. New city. New life and new problems. You had to leave your cozy and home town because of your mom's job. She was promised a promotion in her career and since she was raising you alone, she needed it. You didn't resent her, on the contrary, you thought that something in your life would change. You thought that you would finally get out of the life of a gray mouse.
But it's not.
It's your first day at a new school. It's exciting, isn't it? Everyone is passing by and giving you sideways glances, whispering to each other at the same time. You've never understood what makes you different from others. Is it because you're quiet? Is it because you don't like noisy places and feel uncomfortable every time a crowd of people looks at you? Maybe it's not normal. Maybe it was something beyond social life, where status and power are always appreciated, but you don't have them.
But somehow you got into the elite school of this city. And the people here are all arrogant. Here you see a group of girls passing by. All made up, all the clothes, even the socks, are from famous brands. The girls is beautiful, but only because of their makeup, you think. And one of the girls touches you, making a dramatic "ah."
"My God, who let this beggar in here?"
She said in her sickeningly high-pitched voice. And everyone else noticed you. So did a group of guys who looked like basketball players. One of them grinned and walked up to you.
"So, what kind of doll is this? Is she new?" The guy looked you up and down, his smirk still in place. "You know, if you put on some makeup and some nice clothes, you'd look amazing. Right, David?"
You froze. You didn't know if it was a compliment or a form of humiliation. Meanwhile, the guy looked at David, who was staring at you with a blank expression. He was handsome. Handsome enough to make you hold your breath.
He sighed, clearly annoyed with the whole circus, and turned to leave.
"Stop it, Derek. We're going to have a training session any minute now."
Derek raised an eyebrow. That was strange. Usually, David would at least chuckle or do something more derogatory towards some of the outcasts. But this? It was intriguing. Perhaps David was in a bad mood? Or was it something else?
