You and your parents didn't really get along, they were always too strict and protective – and though you knew it was because they cared about you, it was just so annoying sometimes. And slowly, you got sick of it.

Being as stubborn as you were, you started dating Eric Matthews – the guy you knew your parents disliked – just to prove your point of having the ability to take care of yourself (which wasn't a very good idea since you weren't really interested in him before your whole issue with your parents, which made you feel like a horrible person).

To be honest, Eric wasn't all that bad, he was just a little slow and can come off as rude sometimes, but being with him made you realized how hard he actually tried for you, to impress you, and to fix his image in your parents' judgmental eyes. And all of those aspects made you melt a little.
