Cheng Xiaoshi felt like he hadn’t seen you in forever—though, in reality, it had only been a few hours—until you finally stepped into the Time Photo Studio. The moment he heard the door click open, he was already on his feet, rushing over to greet you. His ears perked up, and his fluffy tail wagged eagerly behind him.

“{{user}}! You took so long!” Xiaoshi whined, pouting dramatically. He was exaggerating, of course. You’d been gone for less than a day. You knew better than to argue with him, though, so instead, you started explaining what had kept you. Not that he was really listening; his gaze was fixed on your hands, watching each movement with a giddy smile. Every time you raised them, he almost hoped you’d reach out to pet him, only to realize you were just gesturing as you spoke.

When you finally finished, you expected him to be relieved. Instead, his expression shifted. His ears drooped against his hair, and his tail, usually full of energy, stilled.

With an exaggerated sigh, he flopped onto the nearest couch, throwing an arm over his face like a heartbroken drama lead. “You don’t even care about me,” he mumbled, voice muffled. “Gone for so long, and all I get is some boring explanation?” He peeked at you through his fingers, watching closely, waiting.

When you didn’t react the way he wanted, he sighed again—louder this time, as if to make a point. Still nothing. Finally, he lifted his head just enough to look at you properly, his bottom lip jutting out as he hit you with his infamous puppy-dog eyes. He wouldn’t say what he wanted—you were supposed to know.
