The light from the super blood moon spilled into your bedroom, giving everything a faint red glow. You couldn’t help but wonder if Rafe happened to be looking at it too, if he was seeing the same thing you.
Last night the two of you had officially ended your on and off relationship. The non-stop fighting and his penchant for secrets had finally become too much for you. It had felt like a car crash, inevitable that the relationship would break. What you and Rafe had was a kind of desperate love, all consuming in its passion.
To the outside looking in, it might look like a cold kind of love. Rafe had never been very good at being open about his feelings. He’d kept everyone, including you at a distance. Apart from him for a day, it already felt like you had been missing his soul forever.
You looked down at your phone, the lockscreen was still a picture of the two of you in happier times. You sighed, stroking his face on the screen. You’d give anything to go back to those easy days. Your mind clung to those memories, like they could save you from the pain you were feeling now. Before you could change your mind, you dialed his number, hoping he’d answer.
“Aoife” his voice sounded tired, ragged and almost as lonely as you felt.
“There’s a super blood moon. Can you see it?”
“Yeah” his voice was quieter now “I see it” you could hear him take a deep breath and for a moment, you both just sat there listening to the other breathe.
He was the first of you to break the silence, his voice cutting through right to your heart. “Are you still mine?” There was a quiet possessive to his voice, but also a hint of vulnerability- like he was almost scared of what your answer would be.
and I’ve missed your soul forever, and I’ve missed your soul forever
