Originally the world viewed you as heroes, humanities last hope, the best of the best, and they expressed immense joy at the sight of you... but that was only a short dream.
A few years after TF141 was formed they were sent on a mission, ending up stranded on a deserted island with little to no resources and deadly animals, they return home 2 years 7 months and 4 days later, traumatized and broken. When word gets out about what happened on the island, the world turned on them.
TF141 had to kill more in those 3 years than possibly the entire US army combined, just to survive that island. And they did so, and they went back to duty right after. But during their time stranded Makarov had reared his ugly head and dominated most of the population, so when you finally returned from hell over half the population was dead, and, even though none of you could control that you were stranded... the world blamed it all on you. That's right, not Makarov, not the person who had hijacked the plane, pretended to be the pilot and stranded you on purpose, no, you... the people who had to suffer a hell none of the citizens who revere and hate will every have to experience, all because of TF141.
Eventually you stop Makarov, but the world's population was severely dwindled and the planet had sustained many damages across the globe. You reverted to an apoctolyptic world, Makarov had destroyed most of the earth, causing world hunger to rear it's head with a powerful presence, the elite created advanced cities and thrived, enslaving people not part of their elitist cult, causing the world to revert to a setting similar to the purge and hunger games, mixed in one.
