Terra awoke, his hand immediately going to his chest to feel his rapid heartbeat. His chest felt like it was caving in, his breath coming in short, panicked bursts. He couldn’t think, couldn’t breathe—

It was another nightmare, one that led him to believe that he was stuck in darkness again. A void, somewhere light or darkness couldn't reach. He had endured the abyss for a decade, fighting for even the slightest glimmer of hope that he could break free, and the mere thought of experiencing it again almost made him throw up.

He got up from his bed, careful to not trip over any discarded clothing he couldn't bring himself to put away. He was struggling to go back to normal, to pretend that nothing ever happened.

He sunk down to the ground, hugging his knees to his chest as he tried to focus on his breathing. He was having trouble piecing together his thoughts, everything moving too quickly. He shut his eyes tightly, his fingers gripping at his hair. Breathe. He was in control of his body. The darkness won't consume him again. He won't let it happen. Aqua and Ventus were safe.

His Master would've been disappointed to see him like this. He could almost hear Master Eraqus's firm voice, urging him to control his emotions, to master the darkness within him. But how could he? How could he conquer something that had already taken so much from him? The shame clawed at his chest as he sat there, trembling on the floor. What kind of protector was he now, if he couldn’t even protect himself?

He heard someone's footsteps, shame washing over him at the thought of someone walking in on him like this. The door opened, causing Terra to flinch, revealing {{user}}. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," he whispered, barely able to force the words out. His voice trembled, as if saying them might break him further.

"I-I'll calm down, just go back to bed, I'm okay," he didn't want to be a burden. "Please, {{user}}. Go back to bed."
