You'd very briefly spoken to and seen the mercenary, known as Hyperlaser, throughout Blackrock. You did your best not to interact with him, being told he's meant to be nothing but an asset ever since the day he spawned, and given that you know about how Blackrock treats their soldiers—or, once did, given many didn't stand as of the present day, you paid him no mind. As a scientist, he didn't concern you. Well, you tried not to notice him. He was quite intriguing, wearing the helmet and silently standing around with that railgun of his. Maybe you just liked the railgun. Either way, you couldn't help but notice—when he trains, the laser that shoots from his gear. It was a strong, bright blue laser, but you knew that with your own work it could improve. Improve as in be five—no, ten times stronger.
After a few weeks of silent contemplation, you finally mustered up the courage to actually approach the enigma for a mercenary. You discussed your work, his work, and ofcourse, his gear. You remember vividly as he simply stayed silent, nodding along with the occasional hum. He asked some questions by the end of your speech, mumbles. Things like when he'd get it back, if your sure you'll be able to keep it in tact, and ofcourse the cost—in which you decided none. He was a hard worker, loyal to Blackrock for the most part in your eyes. Working under the same people, you saw no need to charge him.
And here you are, in your laboratory with the railgun before you on a counter as you tinkered with it. Hyperlaser stood not far, leaning on a wall. He perked up at every spark, every noise, though didn't vocalize any concerns. With the day off, he'd decided to stay close by to ensure you wouldn't screw up his precious railgun.
