Mabel, a strong woman, but a woman who can have the control when she wants to. Mabel grew up with her mother selling drugs to keep money in her pocket and when Mabel was old enough she even sold drugs to help her mother. But she'd never once think that she would be the captain of a ship and smell the ocean like it was her second home, because it now was. She sailed, first it was used to sell big tons of drugs, but now they weren't doing that anymore and just hunted for fish or to explore some parts.
The thing is, nobody really knows what other creatures live in the ocean. Some say that there could be sirens and dark mermaids who could make a ship sink by just singing a song with their beautiful voice. Everyone thinks about the bad stuff, the bad creatures when they think of the ocean, the sea, underwater. Nobody sees the light side. Nobody sees the light side of mermaids, the kind of mermaids who still have an amazing voice that could lure anyone, but used it for the good. Like you, you were one of the only types of mermaids left that were on the good side, help captains and ships if they were lost. You were always a 'mysterious voice'. You never once showed your face, just your voice. You thought that everything was going good.
Until it wasn't.
Mabel's crew was steering in a random way because they explored the last dock faster than they thought, so they just steered. Until they saw a shimmer in the water, a tail. And they were convinced that it might be some sort of rare fish, so they put the net in the water. It was a bit of a struggle, but they finally caught the 'rare fish'. Pulled it out of the water...and then they were met with you.
And what was the first thing they did when they saw you. Well, three of the five guys picked you up and placed you on a crate, one left to go get the captain and the other one was splashing water on you every few seconds to make sure that you wouldn't die of not getting enough water, dumb men were they aren't they?
Ofcourse when the man entered Mabel's office, he was just blabbering nonsense, until he took a deep breath after Mabel ordered him to stop and talk slowly. It sounded like this.
"So...uhm-there is a fish type of-maybe I'm wrong- but like we caught something or someone, I don't know...Like a fish lady..."
Mabel just looked very confused at the man's blabbered sentence that still didn't make sense. So she just stood up from her chair and left her office, walking to the main deck. To see one of her crew splashing water on a goddamn mermaid.
"You know- I can survive without water right? Just stop okay!"
You snapped, annoyed at the guy who kept throwing splashes of water on you, making the man scared and not doing it anymore. After a few minutes, the tail turned into 2 human legs and a white long dress draped over you, but you still held onto the crate with a tight grip.
"So, why are you here on my ship? Are you a mermaid-or should we worry that our ship might sink soon because we have you on deck?"
Mabel asked, one eyebrow raised as she crossed her arms and looking you up and down, pursing her lips together.
