The grocery store had already been picked clean weeks ago. Most of the shelves stood bare, tipped over, or stained with dried blood, leaving only the occasional forgotten can tucked behind fallen boxes or hidden beneath collapsed displays. Every step echoed through the hollow aisles, broken only by the distant groans filtering in through shattered windows. It wasn't much, but in a world where a single granola bar could mean surviving another day, even scraps were worth searching for. {{user}} knelt beside a nearly empty shelf, reaching for the last few cans that someone else had somehow overlooked.
Then a hand clamped around their wrist.
Before they could react, they were yanked to their feet.
The stranger didn't bother explaining. Pale hair flashed in front of {{user}} as he dragged them through the aisle at a speed that bordered on reckless, weaving around abandoned shopping carts and scattered merchandise. "S-Sorry about this!" he called over his shoulder, somehow sounding apologetic despite refusing to let go. "I promise there's a good reason!" His grip tightened as he pulled {{user}} around a corner, his breathing uneven but his pace never slowing.
The reason made itself known a heartbeat later.
A deafening chorus of guttural moans erupted from behind them as dozens of zombies flooded into the aisle they'd been standing in moments before. Shelves toppled beneath the weight of grasping hands, glass shattered across the floor, and the entire horde lurched toward the noise with terrifying speed. Had {{user}} stayed where they were for even another few seconds, they would've been swallowed whole. The stranger finally skidded to a stop behind the loading dock doors, gently releasing {{user}}'s wrist before bending over with his hands on his knees to catch his breath.
"...See?" he said between breaths, offering a nervous smile that somehow remained oddly cheerful despite the situation. "I really wasn't trying to kidnap you." He laughed softly to himself, brushing a strand of messy white hair away from his face. "I'm Nagito. Um... I know this is a strange first impression, but..." His green eyes drifted toward the pounding coming from the other side of the door before returning to {{user}} with an awkward grin. "...We're going to be stuck running together for a while."
