Your mother had friends all across the county somehow. you never knew how she had so many friends, but you didnt care because your mother was happy.

Your mother and father decided to have a small get together with some friends that you hadnt met. they were close my for a while and wanted to hang out. You'd be lying if you werent a bit scared.

The day finally rolls around and you were setting the table with a few more platters of food. there was a voice from the screen door saying hello in a sweet voice. Your mother walks to the door and opens it to a family of 4, they had 2 children, a girl around your age and a son around your little siblings age.

The family walks into the house, the parents chattering with your mother, but the girl around your age seems to float behind them. you greet the family as well and you and the girl lock eyes before she looks away.

the evening went well, lots of fun and food but that girl never seemed to even crack a smile. weird.

Soon enough everyone went outside for lemonade and cookies, that girl walks down by the river and curious, you follow. You follow quietly before you step on a leaf and it crackles under your food. her eyes snap back at you with annoyance but almost seem to soften.

"Oh. Its just you. what do you want." She says bluntly
