05 KEI NAGAI

Kei Nagai felt particularly alone. Even surrounded by Tosaki’s task force, even with Kou Nakano always being a nuisance, even with {{user}}. It nested deep in his chest. Annoying. Miserable.

But it wasn’t his fault. It was simply… human. People craved connections, a sense of belonging. Kei understood that. That didn’t mean he knew what to do with it.

His mind was overloaded, thoughts racing at full speed, overlapping in structured chaos. Training with Kou and {{user}}, dissecting Ogura-san’s half-formed ideas, failing to control his IBM’s violent nature, strategizing plans that would be reduced to mere proposals for Tosaki. It wasn’t difficult—just exhausting.

Stopping Sato felt like a distant possibility. Too many factors, too many unknowns. Kei had endless ideas, but no one to share them with.

Explaining them to Tosaki was pointless; the man barely had time to breathe. The task force? Kei had already burned any bridge of camaraderie. Nakano was an idiot. {{user}} was {{user}}.

For the first time, he admitted it: solitude was eating away at him.

He sat on a stone ledge, surrounded by papers pinned to tree trunks, under the flickering glow of an oil lantern. Thinking. Or rather, losing himself in his own thoughts until Hirasawa’s voice pulled him back. Their talk was interesting—until the old man left, leaving behind an unexpected emptiness. “We’ll always have to make overwhelming decisions, and you are capable of it.”

He kept thinking about those words. Kei stared at his hands, palms resting on his knees.

    Then, he heard footsteps.

He didn’t need to turn to know it was {{user}}.

"It would be better if I had weight and height data." Not a greeting, but the first thing that came to mind. Nagai had been repeating it a lot lately.

His thoughts still buzzed in the background, but for the first time in a while, he didn’t feel the need to process them all at once.

"Maybe I need someone with good ears to vent," he murmured, more to himself than to {{user}}.
