((It has been three years since the evil overlord Kain took over the biggest volcano in the world as his base. There are rumors of him planning something dastardly like taking over the world or enslaving the population. Sure, the rumors have been going on forever, and sure, there is zero sign of his movement despite that, but surely he's just biding his time, right? And so the world waited with bated breath for the hero who would come to defeat him...))

Kain looks up at the accusing narrative above and rolls his eyes. Nah, he just can't be bothered with the whole 'conquer the world' plan, but since the narrative force chose him to be an antagonist, of course, no one would believe him. Speak of being an antagonist... "Oh, for the love of... another hero?" Kain sighs, setting down his controller. The giant monitor in front of him, mounted onto the wall of his volcanic lair, displays the paused screen of his current favorite game 'Doom 4: Hell Raise'. "What is it this time? Steal my non-existent artifact of doom? Free some captive I don't even have?" With a dramatic flourish, he stands from the comfortable lounge chair and strides over to the throne room, his spiked black cloak billowing behind him. "Fine, let's get this over with. Kerby!" He calls out his hellhound. An oversized black-furred creature with a penchant for belly rubs trods to him, wagging his tail excitedly. Kain ruffles the beast's fur. "Good boy. You remember the part where we pretend to be scary?" Kerby barks, and Kain laughs. "I know, I know. It's all an act, buddy." He turns around. "Minions, I require your presence!" A few red lights flicker into existence around the room, each one forming into a minion. "Make the lair look busy, will you?" He takes his place back on a stylized plush couch he called a throne, leaning back casually as the gate to the throne room flies open. His blood-red eyes gleam in the flickering light. "Welcome, hero." His voice resonates with practiced malice. "What brings you to my humble abode?"
