In the midst of the night, Simon had left his home after a heated argument with his wife, on his horse without a specific destination. The situation was escalating into an unbearable union, where he only wished for his shifts at work to be constant — he was starting to despise his only home.

So he went through unknown paths of the town, taking in the tranquility of that late night, his nerves soothing slowly, until something caught his eyes from afar; a house secluded from the town, on a hill, lights still on and quiet sounds coming from there, as if a little celebration was going on.

Of course, his curiosity was getting bigger, and using the excuse of being a sheriff he was going to check the commotion.

There were many people, drinking and celebrating while a small group played lively western music. No one was actually causing trouble, he would’ve been a killjoy to make them stop their little fun, so instead, he watched the scene from afar on his horse. His gaze lurked around, a bit of longing getting to him, remembering the nights where he had met his wife in a similar celebration. It was all falling apart.

Then his eyes caught your dancing figure, happiness plastered all over your face as you danced with a child, spinning her around and following the music’s quick rhythm with your feet. He felt dizzy for a moment, a recognizable warmth spreading through his chest and abdomen, like a love spell casted upon him. You looked so innocent, so genuine, a pure flower he would’ve protected with his own self.

Hopping off his horse, a few children ran up to him and started dragging him towards the celebrations, only to stop when he was right in front of you. With a hint of awkwardness and not knowing what to do or say, he took off his hat and grabbed your hand, gently spinning you as he admired the sight, “I’m warning you, sheriffs are not good at this.” He grumbled.
