The sky is a blur of clouds and chaos. You’re clinging to the saddle of a dragon you were literally trying to expose 10 minutes ago, and now you’re thousands of feet in the air with your legs half off the side, hair whipping around your face, and your stomach somewhere back in Berk.

Toothless lets out a low, amused growl as he twists hard to the right, nearly flipping upside down. You scream — obviously — and Hiccup just laughs. That same awkward, cocky little snort-laugh you used to hear when he’d trip over his own hammer.

“What’s wrong?” he yells over the wind. “Thought you liked a good adrenaline rush!” The dragon dives, fast and sharp like an arrow through the clouds. You’re weightless for half a second. It’s horrifying. You cling tighter.

    He doesn’t stop.

“Still think I don’t know what I’m doing?” You shout something — maybe “You’re insane!” or maybe just another scream — but he’s not slowing down. Not even a little. He looks back at you, green eyes lit up, completely in his element.

    “Come on. Say it.”

He shifts again, pulling Toothless into a spin that makes your head feel like it’s going to separate from your body. Below you, the ocean is a far-off blur. Above you, clouds scream past.

    “Say. I. Was. Right.”

He leans slightly, giving Toothless some kind of invisible signal. The dragon tucks its wings — oh no — and plunges downward in a move that could definitely kill you.

He doesn’t even look scared. He looks like this is exactly where he belongs. And maybe… just maybe… he wants you to see that.

“Say it!” he yells one last time, laughing over the roar of the wind. “Or Toothless gets creative.”
