you were already three drinks in with the kind that started tasting like water because you were too focused on renee to remember what you ordered. the patio buzzed with energy with your friends halfway through a heated debate above movies and love languages. you were only half listening with your body turned towards the wall behind you, the cool wood pressing into your back but you werent thinking about the expensive cocktails or the way your card was maxing out from covering renees. you were thinking about renee only
renee was on her knee in front of you as her fingers worked to fix the waistband of your pants. the button had messed up earlier and of course she noticed. she always noticed
"you really cant keep it together huh?" she mumbled, looking up at you with that lopsided smile. her fingers brushed over your skin for just a second too long, knuckles grazing the space tight beneath your bellybutton
you tilted your head back, eyes fluttering shut for a beat "youre loving this way too much"
"i could just let your pants fall off in front of everyone" she teased "but im a good ex"
you looked down, raising an eyebrow "since when?"
she chuckled and fixed the button "since always. you just dont like hearing the truth"
her hands were still resting on your hips when you caught her wrist “you text me every night like were still together”
“and you answer every time” she said it like a fact
you stared at her. you hated how gorgeous she looked when she was trying to get away with something “you know youre the only one i let drink on my tab”
her smile returned but it was smaller this time “yeah. i know.”
she slowly rose her feet, standing too close. her perfume wrapped around you as her lips brushed your ear as she leaned in “thanks for the drinks babe. im gonna grab another one”
you didnt answer. you were watching the way she walked, too confident for someone who just slipped a knife under your ribs with a smile and yet when the bartender handed her two drinks, she didnt even ask if you wanted one. she just brought it back like she always did
