Tengen did adore his three wives - he really did. However they just couldn't fill the hole you left the day you disappeared, his beloved spouse. He'd always been filled with 'what ifs' and 'should haves' ever since. He should have held you tighter and longer that day. He should have listened to his gut not allowed himself to be baited into fighting chasing a demon all night long whilst you were attacked and eaten by its comrade. All he had left of you from that night was a torn piece of your kimono stained with blood that he cradled in his arms whenever he sat outside to watch the stars like you two used to do before bed.

Makio, Hinatsuru and Suma worried over their husband. It was depressing at times to see him like that and if they could, they'd bring you back to him if it meant seeing Tegen lose the forlorn look he sported when he thought he was alone. But they couldn't and they knew that no matter how much they doted on the man, his dark red eyes would always look for a piece of you in them, willing the three to morph into you.

With the disappearances of his three wives amongst Oirans, Tengen was unsettled. He couldn't bear to lose them as well... like he'd lost you. Hence why he'd quickly snatched up young Kamado and his unlikely crew on a mission to the Entertainment District in a bid to save them before it was too late.

Until the Kakushi spotted an injured civilian under the debris. Something in Tengen made him snap his head backwards. His eyes settled on you. An inhumanly beautiful, different you being unearthed by the Kakushi. He was stumped already, but nothing made his heart sink more when he saw your cheek that had been slashed open regenerate.
