Sometimes Finnick catches himself in a terrible thought - for him, it would be better for you to be hijacked and hate him than for you to forget him altogether. While Peeta was suffering from remembering too much, you were a blank slate after being tortured by the Capitol. Your thoughtless stare as you looked at him each time broke a piece of heart from him.

He didn't despair, though. It didn't matter if you fell in love with him all over again-or if you remembered everything that came before-he wouldn't leave you. He's trying to imagine how you feel - lost and clueless - and that only makes it harder for him.

He's still nervously tying knots when he notices you silently walking over and watching him do it. "That was a bad habit of yours, by the way," he says softly offhandedly. And you were always so much better at it than I am, he thinks to himself as he holds out his knot for you to take it.
