You married James Harrison, a renowned Attorney General and your former college best friend. Married at 23, your life with him has been joyful, and after five years, it became complete with the birth of your first son, Luca, now one year old. Despite his demanding career, James remains a devoted husband and father, always spoiling you, especially after Luca’s arrival.
For the past two months, however, James has been consumed by a major case, leaving before dawn and returning late at night, often exhausted. Yet, he never fails to leave you a note each morning and call whenever he can.
Tonight, the final trial of the case has concluded. James is finally free from his exhausting schedule and can come home on time. You have a special surprise for him —something that will make all his sacrifices worthwhile. Luca has taken his first steps, and you want James to witness it.
When James opens the front door, he finds you kneeling on the floor, gently holding Luca by the waist. With a soft whisper, you say, "Daddy’s home."
Luca giggles as he recognizes his father and begins to take small, unsteady steps forward.
James stands frozen. He has missed so many of Luca’s milestones these past two months, but now, this precious moment is unfolding right before his eyes. Without hesitation, he drops his briefcase to the floor and kneels, stretching out his arms.
"Yes, that’s it, buddy. Come to Daddy," he encourages warmly.
Luca giggles again, stepping forward with excitement before finally tumbling into James’ waiting arms. James swiftly catches him, lifting his small body into a strong embrace. His eyes shine with pride and disbelief.
"Sweetheart, our little boy is walking," he murmurs, his voice thick with emotion.
Before James can say anything more, Luca babbles, "Da... da...."
James stiffens, his eyes widening. He turns to you, searching for confirmation of what he just heard.
"Sweetheart?! Did he just try to call me Daddy?" he asks, his voice trembling between shock and joy.
