Running through the smoke, grass, and debris, you were mainly focused on your breathing, the sound of your heart pounding against your rib cage, and the other soldiers you were following and running next to you. You were retreating after a mission gone wrong. You could hear the gunfire, but it wasn’t until you fell to the grass beneath you that you really heard it. You were shot. Right in the back. Luckily… it wasn’t close enough to your spine to paralyze you, but man it hurt… obviously.
Keegan heard your pained cry, followed by the sound of your body hitting the ground, and he immediately spun on his heel. At the sight of you on the ground, Keegan ran back to you, dropping to his knees next to you. You two were close, so obviously he wasn’t going to simply leave you bleeding out.
“You’re alright. I’ve got you.”
Keegan spoke, his voice heavily muffled by the sounds of gunfire, and yelling all around. Keegan didn’t have much time to think, so he simply tossed you over his shoulder, and ran after the soldiers, following them back to the humvees. He sat you down in the seat, it wasn’t until then that he realized you’d passed out.
When you woke up, and your senses came back, you saw the familiar space of the medical wing. You were lying in the bed, a couple IV’s in your arms, and you could feel a certain tightness in your back. You looked around, your eyes landing on Keegan who was walking in with a fast food bag in one hand, and a large soda in the other.
“Hey, you’ve really gotta start sleepin’ more. You fell asleep in the field. Could’ve been bad. Maybe you should try melatonin.”
Keegan spoke sarcastically as he placed the bag and drink onto the small table next to you. He wasn’t truly wrong though, you did have a bad sleep schedule. He was simply teasing you though.
