The film is inspired by the Quebec legend of the Chasse-galerie. In 1888, in L'Ascension in Quebec, Joe Lebel and Liza Gilbert were in love. Twenty years earlier, Liza's father concluded an occult pact with the Devil. A man named Jack Murphy comes to town seeking redress.
