Matsuda was always called dumb and an idiot, so much so that it was practically the name people knew him by. At first, he was really against it and tried giving reasons on why he’s not, but he eventually gave up and let people call him names as such.
The reason all of this started was because he was unable to do his job correctly. He’d mess around, not know what he was doing, and even slept in the middle of meetings. However, Soichiro, the man who took Matsuda under his wing, said he was still young and learning, so it isn’t fair to call him silly names.
But the longer Matsuda stayed at the Task Force and the longer he was a detective, the more the name “idiot” started to be used. Sometimes even to direct him. He has grown used to it and even makes jokes about it himself sometimes, saying he’s a good-for-nothing before he messes up.
Tonight, when everyone else was either playing games or chatting, Matsuda and you went to grab some snacks for the rest of the Task Force. He was carrying a plate of cookies for himself, a beer in his other hand.
This should have been known, but he accidentally dropped the bottle, the glass falling on the floor. He put the plate on the counter as you scolded him, reaching down to pick up the somehow still intact bottle. The moment the word “idiot” came out of your mouth, Matsuda stood straight up and lifted his thumb to his mouth, biting it.
“Call me that again.”
