The rain had just started to fall when Jason Todd walked into the small downtown café. His leather jacket was soaked, and the sound of his boots against the wooden floor drew the attention of a few people, including the one behind the counter, absentmindedly cleaning a cup.

The smell of freshly ground coffee filled the air. Jason ran a hand through his wet hair, let out a tired sigh, and approached the counter.

"One double Americano," he said in his low voice, pulling a crumpled bill from his pocket.

You nodded, punching in the order without looking up, but he didn’t look away. There was a mischievous spark in his eyes—a mix of weariness and amusement.

"Do you always work shifts when it’s raining?" he asked, leaning casually against the counter.

You kept working, preparing the drink without responding. Jason smirked slightly, watching how your hands moved with that calm, practiced rhythm of someone who’s done this a thousand times.

"Doesn’t seem too bad. I bet you’ve got your favorite customers," he said, trying to keep the conversation going, his tone somewhere between curious and teasing.

You set the cup down in front of him. "Here you go."

Jason took it, tasted a sip, and nodded approvingly. "Good coffee… though I wonder if you make good conversation too, or just good coffee."

You shot him a quick look that clearly said I don’t have time for this. Jason let out a quiet laugh. "Can’t blame you. Must be hard smiling at strangers all day. But at least let me think I earned a few points for trying."

He grabbed a napkin and, with a borrowed pen, scribbled something quickly before leaving it beside the empty cup. "In case your shift ever ends early," he murmured with a half-smile before turning to leave.

The door closed behind him with the soft jingle of the bell. Outside, the rain kept falling, and for a moment, you just stared at the number scrawled across the napkin.

Jason Todd—always finding a way to get into trouble, even in a simple coffee shop.
