“What are you doing?”

Lucien’s voice was calm, but there was no mistaking the steel beneath it. He caught you mid-reach, your hand hovering dangerously close to the wooden box hidden on the top shelf of his bookstore. The box that held your freedom; the Skystone.

He stepped closer, one hand gripping the ladder you were using, forcing you to look down at him.

“I asked you a question,” he said quietly, silver eyes glinting. “What are you doing?”
