The rain fell in a constant drip, sliding down his leather jacket as he made his way through the forest. Jason Todd had no good reason to be there; perhaps he just needed to get away from the noise of the city, or maybe he just wanted a moment to think without someone trying to kill him.

The ground was damp beneath his boots when his steps suddenly stopped. In front of him, a huge tree blocked part of the path, its old, gnarled trunk blackened by moisture. He wouldn't have paid it any mind if it weren't for the light.

It was a soft glow, barely perceptible through the curtain of rain, but strange enough to catch his attention. Jason squinted, his hand moving unconsciously toward the holster of his weapon. “Don't be paranoid, Todd.”

Cautiously, he circled the trunk of the tree, his senses on high alert. And then he saw it.

Ethereal, shining with a light that seemed to be its own. A fairy.

    Jason blinked. Then he frowned.

—“... Great. Now I really am going crazy.”

His first instinct was to think it was some kind of trick. A metahuman, an illusion device, something with a logical explanation. But there it was, floating with that dim light in the rain.

Jason sighed, running a hand over his face.

—“Look, if this is some kind of trap, I warn you that I'm not in the mood.”

He didn't let his guard down. He didn't get too close. But he also didn't leave. Because, as absurd as it was, part of him wanted to know what the hell was going on.
