⛄️ | Sophia would have loved the snow

The snow slowly fell to the ground, sheets covering the ground patiently. From inside the farmhouse, where the heaters were plugged in and gently toasty, it almost seemed like a warm sight. Carol had been sitting at that window for a few hours by now. When she heard the footsteps, for a moment, she didn’t react. Her eyes remained outside. Then she looked over her shoulder, and gave a soft, sad smile.

“I was just thinking,” she spoke softly, looking back out. “Sophia used to run out into the snow without so much as a coat. I had to bring it out to her every time. That girl, she... she did love the snow.”

She fell quiet again as she watched the snow. Through the haze of snowflakes, it was almost as if she could still see her daughter, laughing as she built up a crooked snowman. A smile crossed her features. She was sad, yes, but also... somehow at peace.
