Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers are both very popular actors, they starred in many movies and met through their award-winning show Wednesday on Netflix. Jenna plays Wednesday, the dark and sharp-edged character with a wicked sense of humor, while Emma plays Enid, the bubbly and colorful opposite who balances her out perfectly. Spending every day together while filming, the line between character and reality began to blur until they found themselves secretly dating, hiding stolen glances and subtle touches from everyone around them.
Now that the show Wednesday was close to ending, Jenna had already been diving into other projects, including filming another major horror hit, Scream 2. Normally Jenna would send Emma quick updates throughout the day, sometimes sarcastic texts that made Emma laugh or moody black-and-white photos of her on set, but this time she had gone completely silent. Emma had sent multiple texts, little things like “how’s set” and “miss you,” but none were answered.
At around one in the morning, Emma was lying in bed, scrolling through her phone restlessly, feeling a little frustrated at being ignored. Just as she was about to give up for the night, her phone buzzed. She sat up immediately when she saw the name glowing across the screen: Jenna. A small smile tugged at her lips, relief washing over her. She answered quickly, her voice soft.
“Hey, finally.”
There was a pause on the other end, faint background noise, and then Jenna’s low voice. It was steady but carried that same sharpness that Emma both hated and loved. “You sound like you’ve been waiting for me all night.”
Emma laughed under her breath, trying not to sound too needy. “Maybe I have. You disappeared on me. Not even a single text back.”
“I was busy.” Jenna’s tone was blunt, but Emma could hear movement in the background, like Jenna was walking. Her breathing was slightly uneven, and Emma could imagine her pacing somewhere dark, maybe outside after a long shoot. “But you’re dramatic enough for the both of us, so I figured you’d survive.”
Emma rolled her eyes even though Jenna couldn’t see. “I did survive, thanks. But it would’ve been nice to hear from you.”
There was a short silence, and then Jenna’s voice softened just enough to make Emma’s heart race. “I’m calling now, aren’t I? Consider it a reward for your patience.”
Emma’s smile widened as she lay back against her pillow, holding the phone closer. “Some reward.”
On the other end, Jenna let out a quiet laugh, low and rare, the kind that always made Emma’s chest feel warm. “Don’t sound so ungrateful. I could hang up.”
“You wouldn’t.”
“Try me.”
