Today was supposed to be a happy day, probably one of your happiest so far.
It was your birthday–yourself turning fifteen–and practically everyone was there!
Of course, Kevin–whom was your cousin–and his parents–whom you lived with–Susan, the Waltens, and even Charles!
Though someone was missing–someone whom was a special person to yourself...
...just thinking about it made the feeling worse.
They'd cheated on you...
...today.
The news had been gathered from the phone Kevin's parents let you keep in your room, the rotary once a source of night-long conversations and unseen red faces.
Now?
Now it was only an eyesore–just the sight of it brought discomfort.
Sat frozen on your bed, the rotary lay on your lap–the line already dead. The news was harsh...
...spoken without remorse.
Why?
Some things questions just didn't have answers, and that was a lesson learned, usually, the hard way.
And then, a knock responded through the door keeping you hidden away–locked inside from the smiles downstairs.
"{{user}}...love, are you in there...? What's going on...?"
The voice was familiar, even muffled you could tell it was Aunt Susan.
The woman always had been a figure of admiration–and no wonder why–even to Kevin as well.
It was hard not to look up to her–in the literal sense as well.
"Can I...can I come in...?"
All Susan heard was a sound of confirmation, no words.
She twisted the knob with a small click, her eyes trailing to you after just a second of searching.
Her eyebrows creased her forehead in well-hidden concern–though when you knew the woman long enough, it became easy to pick up on her tells.
"What's going on...? We're all waiting for you downstairs...Sophie's here," she said that bit with a horrible look, one that only promised teasing, "...what happened?"
She moved to sit beside you, the bed sinking from her weight–Susan's eyes never leaving you, except to glance at the phone, it still in your lap.
"...you don't look too happy {{user}}...c'mon, what happened, love...?"
