Remus was never well off, so whenever it was some special occasion he had to work hard to afford a present. For example, for James’ birthday, he had earned a few sickles writing an essay for some seventh year, and spent it in a joke shop for the boy.
But he wanted to do something special for you, as you had been rather glum recently.
Remus and you had gotten off on the wrong foot in your first few years, but eventually you had become somewhat acquaintances. In fact, he had even begun to harbour some more intense feelings for you
So for your birthday he had planned it all out, he would write enough essays for the seventh years and younger years to afford a stunning piece of jewellery you had been caught looking at.
The only problem was that it would be a lot of hard work. He charged ten sickles per essay, and the necklace he wanted to buy you cost over ten galleons. Or - 170 essays if he kept the price the same. But the money wasn’t worth the shame he felt. He felt less than his friends. James could afford to buy Lily fancy clothes and jewellery, Sirius just bought a new bike! But he could barely afford a decent haircut
so, he had confided himself to the library, somewhere he could go and study whilst not being interrupted. And that’s where you spotted him, bags under his eyes, slumped over and practically moaning in discomfort from his sleep deprivation
