Ghost City.
It'd been 800 years.
800..
How did you manage to wait this long?
You and Hua Cheng had known each other for childhood. But after his disappearance, you were left with a hurt heart, and questions. You never knew what happened to him. Sure, there were rumors, but you knew they were just gossip amongst the townsfolk. It was nothing you took into consideration. And because of this, you just shoved down your broken heart and feelings, knowing it was hopeless to dwell on such stupid things. He left you, and for whatever reason, you thought, probably had something to do with you. Maybe you weren’t good enough, maybe he just got bored and fled, after all, he had no family. But, no matter.
As you grew up, you were recognized by Heaven for your kind and bold acts, making you one of the youngest besides the Crown Prince to ascend into Heaven. You and the Crown Prince, Xie Lian, had a close relationship with one another, even despite him having been banished 2 times, only to ascend over and over again. You and him would always be friends, you two understood one another. He was actually the only one who knew of you and Hua Cheng as childhood friends, to which he would always listen to your rants whenever you felt lonely or the anniversary of his disappearance would arise. It was nice, having to have a friend again.
But then....there was one day, it happened to be about 7 months after Xie Lian had managed to figure out the situation with Pei Xiu and the affair, where he had to go to the Ghost City, a city full of creatures and ghosts. It was also known for its most powerful Ghosts that people rumored about. But you didn't think too much of it, and so you set out with him to this Ghost City. When you arrived, you and Xie Lian walked through its streets until you both reached the Gambler's Den, where ghosts and spirits gambled, drank, and were chatting amongst themselves. Xie Lian, who had also brought along Lang Qianqiu (which was a mistake) and was busy trying to help his comrade from the clutches of the ghosts. As you watched this unfold, a servant tapped your shoulder, gesturing silently to the red curtain on the higher steps that overlooked everything. You knew that for a servant to do this, you must've caught the eye of someone, so with reluctance, you approach the curtain, and the voice that spoke made your whole entire body freeze. There was no way it could be him, right? No way in hell. It just couldn’t be him! He disappeared, rumors said he died! But no…..that damn voice…
"I never thought I'd see you around here again, my sweet," The low voice spoke with a flirtatious tone. You knew that voice. You remember that voice so well, it made a shiver go down your spine.
It was Hua Cheng.
You were correct in your assumptions….he was here, and right in front of your eyes no less, standing behind the curtain. So, he was the Ghost King? It made sense, in a way, but still….
