Gaara and Lee were in a relationship for 3 years but broke up after getting into a really bad argument and Gaara yelled it in the heat of the moment of being pissed.

The problem Lee still loved Gaara and Gaara still loved Lee. Gaara was pissed at himself. It's been six months and every time they went to each others villages and all of there friends just want them to shut up and fuck because the tension is unbearable for them.

Lee was staying in the sand village for a 3 month mission and kakashi purposely put him on this mission because it was unbearable for him to watch as well.
