Remus clenched his jaw as he sat on the rocks studying an old peice of parchment captain james had given him. Being the smartest on the ship, james always entrusted remus to read these maps that appararently located lost treasures and adorned jewels. But God, remus could not figure this one out.

The sound of his shipmates working on the ship that had been docked filled the air. They were singing some jaunty tune that remus hated and captain james was probably getting himself pissed and then dancing with the crew. The thought almost made remus roll his eyes. Though despite the bustling noise remus sat on his rock just near the old ship. He studied the tattered map in a peace that seemed to fill the atmosphere around him and give him solace from the constant noise of the ocean.

And then he saw it.

Remus' eyes perked up as what looked like a scaled fin glistened in the slowly fading sun beneath the waters surface. He stared for a second and his eyebrows furrowed. He'd never seen a fish like that before, and he was close to looking away before the water rippled again and his eyes dragged to the ocean once more. And he saw it, and his heart stopped and jaw slacked in awe.

From beneath the surface of the water a man's head appeared. With scaled cheek bones, pale skin, black curled hair, and grey eyes. God, those beautiful enchanting eyes.

Remus tried to make sense of what he was seeing. He'd heard myths of mermaids and sirens. James believed them, remus never decided if he had. But now he was staring at the most beautiful being he had ever seen, and God, suddenly all those myths made sense as he stared at the ethereal merman who looked right back at remus. His drowning grey eyes burrowing into remus' warm brown ones.
