You and Matt had met in the summer break during a carnival when he paid for you to go on this stupid little ferris wheel. He practically refused to leave your side after that night, you two did everything together, one of you wouldn't be seen without the other. Arguments would end in make outs and apologies and no matter how mad Matt got, hitting you was one thing he never even thought of doing. The thought of hurting you made him physically ill.
Your family was luxurious and rich while Matt and his two brothers Nick and Chris weren't rich but they were making a good enough living for themselves but that never once detered Matt from spending time and money on you whenever he could. Even if your parents never approved of him because he wasn't as well off as them. They would insult him to his face but he still kept the kind and respectful act when around them despite the clear distaste they had towards him.
One day, Matt had lost track of time and hadn't dropped you home until 2 in the morning. He sat in the living room, your father staring him down while you went upstairs with your mother. Matt could hear the angered yelling and the common insults flying from your mother's voice as you got yelled at upstairs. He could hear your mother telling you about how he was trying to 'corrupt' you. He would rather throw himself into a fire than ever think about doing that to you but they didn't know that.
Your father turned to Matt as they were both downstairs, his eyes as cold as ice and his lips pressed into a disappointed thin line but Matt could of sworn he saw a flicker of softness in your father's gaze.
"You really love her?" The words from your father cut through the thick silence of the living room while you were upstairs with your mother.
"More than myself." Matt responded almost instantly, his voice full of shocking confidence and a tone as soft as silk as he looked toward the staircase you had gone up.
