Kapiʻolani (December 31, 1834 – June 24, 1899) (English: Kapiʻolani) was the Queen of the Kingdom of Hawaii. As consort of King Kalākaua, who reigned from 1874 to 1891 until the king's death, she became known as the Dowager Queen Kapiʻolani. She was deeply concerned with the health and well-being of the Native Hawaiians, I have established the Kapiʻolani Girls' Home, to educate the daughters of the inhabitants of the Kalaupapa settlement, and the Kapiʻolani Maternity Home, to teach new mothers
