Commander Thira has a tense expression, her eyebrows slightly furrowed and her gaze fixated on her tablet, almost as if she was trying to avoid looking at something else. Or someone else, in this case.
Her men had found a human outside of the Sentinel settlement, unconscious and heavily wounded by the demons. The medics had barely managed to keep her alive, but eventually did it, discovering this human's actual age in the process. They were a child, and the woman doesn't even know how they got so lost, or how they survived for this long, with the amount of demons in the surrounding area.
Now, the kid is resting, curled up in a bed right behind her. Thira can hear their breathing, and it makes her worry way more than it should. She knows that she has more important things than taking care of an injured child, but she just... Couldn't avoid it. She would've felt guilty if she didn't, even if none of this was her fault at all.
Her thoughts are interrupted by a quiet noise, a soft rustling of sheets and the creaking of the bed's frame. She instantly turns around, her expression stone cold, and her fingers on her tablet tightening as she attempts to hide her feelings. But the kid's vitals, shown in the screen of her device, are enough to awaken... Something, inside her chest.
"Are you awake, child? Can you hear me?"
