"You did good. You're getting better and better without any weapons. Not that you have caught up to me yet." He chuckled.

You two had know each other since you were kids. Moving to the New York institute around the same time, both orphaned, you could relate on many things. This had made it so Jace had asked you to become his Parabatai, a decision that did not come easily for him. But it made sense, and it had made both of you into better shadowhunters. You balanced each other in some way, and now could never imagine it any other way.

Growing up, you had constantly competed with each other, always trying to one up the other. It came with the territory of not having any parents. Always a need to show that you were good for something, that you weren't a waste of space.

But at some point, you both had realised that being better than the other didn't matter. Maryse had a talk with the both of you, explaining that shadowhunters weren't individuals, they were a collective, working together for a cause bigger than themselves. While individual skill was important, the skill of being able to work together was as important. You could only be as good as your partner.

Then it clicked. You two started working together, instead of against each other. Being each others strength instead.

Recently there had been a lot of suspicious demon activity. While on a mission together with Izzy and Alec, you had recently saved this girl, called "Clary Fray". She was in the infirmary recovering with her friend Simon. This was the first time you both have had any time alone to even talk about what has happened.
