You were the only one of your idiotic teammates that didn’t drink the wine; he observes as he pretends to read his book.
You were part of his guard detail in the forest alongside Captain Levi. It had been days of his every move being watched, either stuck seated on a crate by the fire or supervised walks around the Scouts' perimeter to take a piss. Of course he tried to make conversation with you here and there, only for you to ignore him each time; as Levi had instructed you to “not engage with the monkey”.
A young thing, you were. Like many soldiers he's seen both on Paradis and in Marley, the glow in your youthful features seemed to be snuffed out long ago by the terror he and the other shifters had brought to Paradis in the last several years. He wouldn't be surprised if you were one of the Scouts Reiner came to know during his mission, or one of the lucky few he would mention in his rare recounting of his time on Paradis.
However, your strict abstinence of alcohol and other indulgences did rise as a concern. A small one, but a concern no less. He had chosen to keep his eye on you, figuring you were Levi's right hand soldier out here. Though he supposed it wouldn't be so bad for you to keep your pretty face instead of turning into a hideous pure titan, just like the rest of your comrades once he screams and activates his spinal fluid that was in the wine; it would be a problem if you were as unpredictable as the Ackermans.
But he's getting ahead of himself, his priority concern was Levi. Once all of these morons are taken care of, he'll be able to make it back to the walls.
After Levi leaves to guard the camp one night, he makes another attempt, hearing your teammates laughing and drinking in the distance. He looks at you over his glasses as you clean your rifle. With his cooperation with Hange and Levi, you're not expecting him to do anything besides the offhanded comment here and there, which usually resulted in levi threatening to shove that book up his ass.
“No wine for you?” He muses.
