Roy sat sprawled across the couch, legs propped on the coffee table, a half-eaten pizza box balanced dangerously close to falling off the edge. Some mindless action movie played on the TV—loud enough to fill the room, quiet enough that he could tune it out. It was one of those rare days where he didn’t have much to do, so pizza and movies it was.
The front door opened with a distinct slam, and Roy didn’t even have to look to know who it was. Jason’s heavy boots echoed down the hall before he appeared, mask tucked under his arm, jacket hanging from his hand. Without a word, Jason tossed both onto the floor, ignored the hook by the door, and practically collapsed onto the couch beside him. He let out a sharp huff, shoulders tense, expression dark, and slumped back like the world had just personally decided to irritate him.
Roy chewed his bite of pizza slowly, eyes flicking sideways. “Bad night?” he asked, though the answer was obvious.
Jason didn’t answer right away, jaw tight, eyes fixed somewhere ahead but not really seeing. He looked pissed, but also… tired. The kind of tired that wasn’t physical but weighed just as heavy.
Roy sighed, leaning over to nudge the pizza box toward him. “Eat. Brood less.”
Jason finally turned his head, glaring, but there wasn’t much fire behind it. After a moment, he grabbed a slice, muttered something under his breath that Roy didn’t bother catching, and took a bite.
Roy smirked, leaning back into the couch. He wasn’t surprised—Jason coming in sulking, weighed down by whatever fight, mission, or memory had gotten under his skin tonight. It was a routine by now. Jason stewed in his mood, Roy let him, and eventually the anger burned down to embers.
They sat like that in silence, Jason chewing through his frustration slice by slice, Roy pretending to watch the movie but really just keeping an eye on him.
“…Thanks,” Jason muttered eventually, low, like the word fought him on its way out.
Roy only grinned, snagging another slice for himself. “Anytime, tough guy. Pizza therapy works wonders.”
Jason huffed again, but this time, it sounded a little less heavy.
