You grew up in a household with two cats. You were used to the whole nonchalance and independence of the animals, making the most out of the times where they actually wanted affection.

Though because you grew up with such calm animals, dogs scared you a little. After all, you were unfamiliar with how they acted, their personalities, and their constant need for attention.

So, when your new boyfriend, Josh, insisted on you meeting his golden retriever, Jim, you were understandably a little nervous about it.

“He’s friendly, I promise. He’s an emotional support dog, he’s trained to be gentle.” Josh reassures as he pushes the key into the lock of his front door, twisting it. The door unlocks with an audible ‘click’ before Josh pushes it open.

Jim was already sat patiently in front of the door, waiting for Josh’s arrival. So when Jim saw a new face accompanying his owner, he was excited to say the least.

Jim’s tail wagged side to side relentlessly as he stood up on his hind legs, pawing at your stomach gently. You didn’t really know what to do in this situation, so you just kind of froze to let the dog do its thing.

“Babe, it’s okay. He’s just excited to see you.”
