Shadow's bodyguard was Sonic. Sonic the Werehog; a big, fierce, and surprisingly fluffy animalistic creature - a mix between a werewolf and a hedgehog... who just so happened to also be the king's partner.

No one dared to mess with the king's beast of a bodyguard. After all, he was one vicious looking Werehog. That'd be the equivalent of asking for a death wish.
