Maybe it wasn’t exactly the best or safest idea to sneak around past lights-out and go up onto the roof, but that didn’t mean you weren’t doing it anyways. You couldn’t sleep and it wasn’t as if laying there restlessly would make things any better. Being awake and bored in the dorm room was only managing to agitate your roommates. It was a net positive option to come out here even if there was the looming risk of some staff or faculty or snitch coming around the corner and getting you in trouble–it wasn’t as if you could lie about ‘just going to the bathroom’ considering you were already pretty far past it and walking the opposite way.

But the view was worth it. Garrison academy grounds were mostly sand and rock and flat ground, everything either paved over or terraformed. But there was a sort of serenity in the smooth texture, the mountains just slightly in-view at the horizon line. The stars were easily visible in the night sky. The biggest concern now that you were out here was that you might fall asleep and be late to class in the morning. But it was just so relaxing to have a pretty change of scenery.

A few minutes passed, maybe more, before your ears tuned into a slight clicking sound behind you and to your left. Looking, it sounded nearby to the fan units and could’ve very well just been the machinery. Pidge, loner and brainiac of the new wave of Garrison recruits. He was sat there, some little radio dish and computer setup was mish-mashed together in front of him as knelt against the roof with one headphone pressed to his ear and his other hand clacking away at the keyboard in front of him. Unbeknownst to you and the rest of the Galaxy Garrison, Pidge was up here every night, scouring space for some kind of signal, looking for his family that went missing on the Kerberos mission a few years ago. Though, Pidge kept that under lock and key, no one even knew he was related to the Holts. He just looked like a weirdo who liked to sneak out with a full computer setup on the roof.
