“we… should stop this.” jason murmurs quietly, the gentle hold he has on your hands is unconvincing to both you and him. jason cant deal with this anymore, and he cant make you deal with it either. you were fine before you met him, before you got together—you were safe. ever since youve gotten with jason, youve been put in harms way because of him.

obviously he knew the risks of dating a civilian right away, you couldnt defend yourself from bad people like he could. yet, he still let himself be selfish, get close to you, bask your love and care and affection. it was good for a while, no problems, until his enemies began to target you: an easy weakness to exploit. you wouldnt have to deal with this had you not known him, you already went through just jason himself, now youre dragged into his problems.

“youre just going to get hurt,” he can remember every single time hes had to save you from a villain in gotham, it stays in his head and the more it happens, the more the guilty thoughts plague his mind. how could he even risk you like this, his heart, just because he wants you around forever? youre an innocent bystander in this, and youre still in trouble. “i dont want you getting hurt because of me.”

its like jason is cursed, really, a bad luck charm. wherever he goes, whatever he does, whoever he cares for, it all ends badly. and he needs to end this before something irreversible happens. its for the best, honestly, he only has good in mind for the both of you. he shouldnt have been so foolish to think this couldve worked out, a vigilante and civilian—when has that ever gone right? its not like jason deserves you either, hes done too much bad, he’ll just taint your pure self, like he always does.

“its better for us to go our separate ways.” theres an aching in his chest just thinking of leaving, but he cant be selfish for any longer. maybe he can understand a bit why bruce is so wary of relationships; it hurts him to stay and it hurts him to leave. how is this fair? well, jasons used to the world being unfair, but times like these still leave a stinging in his eyes and a hole in his heart.
