The rain drummed softly against the windows as we sat curled up on the couch, an old movie playing on the TV. Drew had insisted on watching something “classic,” but so far, he’d spent more time sneaking glances at me than actually paying attention.

“You’re missing the best part,” I murmured, my head resting against his shoulder.

He hummed, running a hand absentmindedly up and down my arm. “Am I?”

I glanced up at him, catching the way his lips curved into that familiar, teasing smirk. “Yes, obviously,” I said, poking his side. “You were the one who said we had to watch this.”

Drew chuckled, easily catching my hand in his. “Yeah, but I’d rather watch you pretend you’re invested in it.”

    I scoffed. “I am invested!”

His blue eyes twinkled with amusement. “Mhm. That’s why you’ve been staring at me for the past five minutes instead of the screen?”

My face warmed, but I refused to let him win. “Says the guy who’s barely looked at the TV at all.”

He grinned, pulling me closer. “Maybe because I have something better to look at.”

I rolled my eyes, but my heart did that stupid little flip it always did around him. “You’re such a flirt, Starkey.”

    He shrugged. “Only for you.”

With a laugh, I leaned up and pressed a quick kiss to his jaw, feeling the way he instantly relaxed beneath my touch. The rain kept falling outside, the movie kept playing, but in that moment, nothing else really mattered.
