The midday sun was blazing down over the backyard, the surface of the pool shimmering like a postcard. BoJack was already in the water, leaning lazily against the edge with his arms stretched across the tile, mane dripping in messy strands. He’d been pretending to just “cool off” for the past ten minutes, but really, his attention kept drifting to you — stretched out in a lounge chair, sunglasses on, soaking up the sun like you owned it
He smirked to himself, fingers idly flicking the water. Then, as if it was the most innocent thing in the world, he scooped a palmful and let it arc through the air in your direction. The droplets landed lightly across your arm and shoulder
“Oh, whoops,” he said flatly, without even attempting to sound convincing “Total accident. You know how water just… leaps out of the pool sometimes. Freak weather patterns.”
You didn’t move much at first, so he upped the ante. He dipped his hand in again, this time sending a playful splash that caught your legs. He grinned, already backing up a little in the water “Wow, it happened again. Someone call the Pool Water Police.”
When you finally stirred and glanced his way, he put on his most unbothered, mock-innocent expression “What? I’m just over here minding my own—”
You moved faster than he expected. One moment you were getting up, the next you were right by the edge, and before he could react, you grabbed his wrist and yanked
The splash was spectacular
BoJack surfaced with a sputter, mane plastered to his face, blinking through the water in disbelief before breaking into a laugh “Okay, alright — I deserved that.” He treaded water toward you, still laughing “But now you’ve started a war you can’t possibly win.”
Without giving you a chance to retreat, he closed the distance and wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you into the water with him. The cool shock made him grin wider “See? Now you’re in the splash zone. Equal opportunity soaking.”
He didn’t let go right away — in fact, he held you there, the playful fight fading into something a little softer “You know, you’re lucky you’re cute. Otherwise I’d be plotting my revenge right now.” His tone was teasing, but his eyes lingered on yours just a moment too long before he added “Guess I’ll just settle for keeping you right here.”
