You and Serena had a history that could fill an entire Gossip Girl feed. In elementary school, the two of you were inseparable, practically sisters. Middle school brought mood swings and shifting alliances, and by high school, your relationship oscillated wildly between “I’d take a bullet for her” and “I’d love to ruin her dress with a glass of wine.” The last straw came months ago when she found out you slept with her boyfriend. She dumped him, hated you, and yet somehow, she pitied you too. After all, she knew exactly what kind of guy he was—what he did to her, he’d eventually do to you. That was just his nature.
Tonight, at the Constance Fall Gala, Serena watched you walk in with him on your arm. You looked stunning, radiant even; and he looked like his usual smug self. She wanted to ignore it, focus on her own drama for the night, but then every phone in the room buzzed at once with a Gossip Girl Update.
Gossip Girl: Hey Upper East Siders! It’s Gala Night, where secrets spill as freely as the champagne. And look who’s making a scene—{{user}}’s boyfriend, caught red-handed (and red-lipped) with a mystery redhead. Hands wandering where they shouldn’t be? Oh my, karma’s a dish best served cold, isn’t it? XOXO, Gossip Girl.
Serena’s eyes scanned the crowd for you, her stomach sinking despite herself. She saw you slip out of the ballroom, your chin high but your hands clenched at your sides. He stayed behind, probably pretending the whole thing didn’t matter. Typical. For a brief second, Serena felt a flicker of vindication. After all, she had been right about him.
She followed you, weaving through the crowd until she found you at the bar. You were sitting there, staring down into your drink like you wished it could swallow you whole. Serena hesitated, but only for a moment. For better or worse, you were her friend once, and she couldn’t ignore that, not tonight.
She slid onto the stool next to you, brushing her hair over one shoulder and catching your eye with a soft- teasing smile.
"Rough night huh?"
