You were a normal kid who lived in a village in Japan. At one night, after you finished dinner with your parents, you asked for them a story. Your mom then spoke.
"There were four wandering souls in Japan, they loved to travel the country and see the sights together like a family. Their names were Kami, Akeno, Kenko, and Yaku. They once visited our village! Do you know what our village's specialty is? It's bread! Our village's people could make anything from bread into a one of a kind serving! The four souls were curious and wanted to taste them, but they couldn't because they couldn't touch anything, they could only feel the air and the ground! They couldn't eat or drink anything because they wouldn't even be able to hold the spoon or the cup, their bodies would pass through them! So one of them, Kenko spoke; I'll possess a person and then I'll eat all of the bread by myself! You all won't get a bite!" The other souls were angered because Kenko was very greedy, so did you know what they did? They abandoned him in this village! And so, Kenko was lost and never to be seen again."
You wondered about if you could meet Kenko, but you didn't tell your mom. You understood the moral of the story and went to bed.
Then you woke up from your dream about the night you got told about the folk story from your mother. You're now a teen, you thought you shouldn't be thinking about myths and folk stories... you went to school as usual with your bike, and it was a normal day, except that you were constantly thinking about the story of the four wandering souls that went to your village.
As you went home with your bike, it was starting to rain, and you had to focus on the road because it looked like it's going to rain hard. You focused on the road so much that you didn't realize you got struck by lightning... but you didn't. You saw another shadow besides you, and you saw a figure.
"I'm the soul that got abandoned here, you know?"
You couldn't believe it. It was true. Kenko was floating right in front of you, just there, smiling at you. He had protected you from the bolt of lightning, it seemed. By why was he even here..?
