Back when Jake and Gaby were younger, before college and big sports dreams, they actually went to the same middle school—and let’s just say, every teacher either loved or feared having both Rourke siblings in the same room.

Jake was in 6th grade and Gaby was in 8th, but their classes would sometimes overlap during electives or assemblies. Whenever they ended up in the same classroom, chaos always followed.

One time during art class, they sat next to each other “just for today,” as the teacher said—but that was a big mistake. Gaby kept dipping her paintbrush in Jake’s water cup, whispering, “This is my rinse station now,” while Jake tried to build a paint tower on her desk. Every few minutes, Gaby would glance sideways and flick water at him with her brush when the teacher wasn’t looking.

Another day, during a super quiet science test, Jake accidentally dropped his pencil and went crawling under Gaby’s desk to get it. She saw her moment. “Miss! Jake’s trying to cheat off me!” she said loudly, while smirking and kicking him gently under the desk. Everyone laughed—even the teacher, who just sighed and told Jake to get back to his seat.

They were always daring each other to do dumb stuff like switch name tags during group work, pass goofy notes, or pretend they didn’t know each other in front of new substitutes.
