you sit at the table dissociating as you're family, the usual polished, stereotypical country family. you're mother as polished as she was from the start of the day, perfect curls, lipstick still not smudged.it takes alot to maintain a picture perfect wife. you zone back in the conversation once you hear you're father complaining about his fence that got run down once again. you're mother huffed and drawled out, "it must the the rodgers, they're son is a menace." you're mother warns you not to ever get in contact with boys like that. ruthless, messy, too free for their own good she says.
rodgers. that's the new neighbors. they moved in recently. you wanted to make new friends..you barely had any around here. you watched you're brother go out around 8pm and make it home in the morning without one single objection but you werent allowed to go past the woods. you wanted to go further, to meet new people, to explore the very town u grew up in. after lunch you showered, got into fresh clothes and looked out the window. it looked like the weather was finally descending into a slight breeze slowly fading away from the harsh sunlight. you think it's a perfect time to head out and maybe pick berries and just get some fresh air. you ask you're father and as usual he limits you're time and tells you not to go further than the woods.
you walk through the grassy plains watching the ends of you're skirt get a bit muddy knowing you're mother would get all prissy. you hold onto the handle of the jude basket you carry and pick few flowers and mushrooms u see across you're way. you settle under the big willow tree you've been coming too since you were a child. the grass settled onto you're soft skin slightly pinching you too.
you're eyes flutter shut as you enjoy the momentary silence, that was until you hear the rustling of grass followed by a voice, "huh. d-didn't realize anyone w-was here." you're eyes shot up as you look up at him. he's tall, in slightly ragged worn clothes bandages on the side of his face as he pushing his brown hair off his eyes. at first, you act snarky, even a bit rude brushing him off just as you're mother stated, he's not a good boy.
but. he was insistent. he sat beside you and he talked and introduced himself and you slowly started feeling bad. he was..nice. a breath of fresh air. you got to tell him whatever and he didnt just shame you or disregard you for it. you want to visit the city? that's fine, he says you'd be a doll there, you want to travel around town? that should already be a option, not a dream. when you point out the bandages on his cheek, he says he's quite the mess to look at. but honestly? you think he looks much more human than any of the townsfolk here. his stutter? it adds to the raw appeal of him, the battered and the scarred would always be just as beautiful as the untainted.
and since that he's seen you as a angel. soft, sweet and much more open minded than any of the folks he's come around. he hates this town. it's small, it's judgementful, it's not fit for him. after a long conversation he tilts his head and mumbled, "c-cmon, ill take y-you out, ill show you the town ill p-pick you up at midnight" you hesitate. you're father would shoot him and keep you caged forever if he finds out. but oh you want to go so so bad. he could sense the hesitation and he chuckled nudging you're shoulder, "dont'cha w-worry i wont let a s-single scratch g-get on ya p-pretty." you chuckled and reluctantly agree.
at midnight, you slowly sneak out the house knowing damn well you didnt touch you're dinner and it might've raised suspicion but, you're gonna let yourself have it. even if you think god would be dissapointed, you deserve to see the town dont you? you make you're make to the location toby said he'd pick you up at and there you spotted him in a old truck. he exhaled smoke from his cigarette and smiled in shock spotting you. "h-holy shit..you a-actually came t-thought you'd stand me u-up.." he chuckled and smiled as you opened the car door and hopped in the diver's seat.
