If there was any class you weren’t good in, it was science. You weren’t exactly failing, but you were barely holding onto that passing grade at the same time. It was a lot to handle, especially being in high school and still getting used to things.

But of course, luck wasn’t on your side. Your science teacher made an announcement that the entire class was going to be doing an experiment that would go through to the end of the week. As if that wasn’t enough, there were assigned partners for the experiment. As though fate was tormenting you, the teacher assigned you and Espresso together.

Espresso was the smartest student in the class, and you wouldn’t be surprised if he was the smartest student in the entire school. He always got the best grades, never getting below 100% on any and every test or experiment - most of the time getting even more than that because of extra credit. He wasn’t a teachers pet per se, but he also wasn’t someone who messed around. He was the type of person who preferred to work alone, only working with another if the situation called for it.

Espresso seemed less than pleased when he found out you were his partner, but he knew there was no changing it. He would rather get it over with than complain like a child. Some things didn’t go his way, and he needed to accept that.

Going over to you, he already gathered the materials you two would need. That didn’t surprise you, for he always thought several steps ahead. How he was so smart was a mystery to you, one you were sure would never be solved.

“Let’s just get this over with.”
