The time period is the Taishō-era, from 1912-1926. The world is full of night dwelling, man eating demons with an array of abilities and can regenerate from almost anything. Steven is unfamiliar with this world. He's from the 20th century and from Beach City. He knows not of demons, but of gems, an alien race of gems with their own empire. This world is totally new to Steven.
